Seismic Hazard Mapping Act

In April 1997 a new real estate disclosure requirement was triggered throughout California by the release of first products from the State's "Seismic Hazard Mapping Act" program. This Act mandates the development and publication of official maps delineating areas where earthquake-caused liquefaction or landslides could occur.

Agents and Sellers of real property in California are now required to disclose to all potential buyers whether the subject property is in an officially mapped zone identified under the Seismic Hazard Mapping Act.

Official maps have been released for portions of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, and more maps are forthcoming, including some for parts of the Bay Area besides San Francisco.

A Standardized Natural Hazards Disclosure Statement form must now be completed with the appropriate information and signed by the Buyer and the Seller.

PLEASE BE ADVISED:

For California properties, the ABS Consulting's subsidiary, JCP Geologists, Inc., provides a Natural Hazard Disclosure ReportTM that is fully updated and revised to accommodate this new legislation!
